Get Into Golf, the national campaign to inspire adults to take up the game, is launching a drive to attract women to the game.
Just over half the population is female – but only 14 per cent of golf club members are women. Get into golf is highlighting free or low-cost opportunities for women beginners and returners, together with the social and health benefits of golf.
The campaign is making the most of the current enthusiasm for the sport, thanks to last week’s Open Championship at Royal Lytham & St Annes and the forthcoming Ricoh Women’s British Open at Royal Liverpool, and is reaching out to women through the work place and other networks.
Outdoor advertising and features in regional and local magazines will add extra support to the campaign inCheshire.
Get into golf will also feature in Balance, a health and wellbeing programme aimed at over 450,000 NHS staff, of whom more than 80 per cent are female. It is also being delivered to 52,000 staff in 24 district councils.
Get into golf opportunities for women are run by the country’s network of County Golf Partnerships and include free or low-cost beginner courses with PGA professionals. These are a fun and sociable way to start golf – and a great way to make new friends.
Everyone attending a beginner course will receive a basic introduction to the game, together with information about club membership and follow-on coaching opportunities.
