Environmental action plan for Ryder Cup

The European Tour agrees to run a range of environmental activities in the planning and operation at the K Club including attention on transport, waste management and protecting the site

As part of the European Tour’s ongoing commitment towards environmental responsibility it has agreed to run a range of environmental activities in the planning and operation of next year’s Ryder Cup at the K Club. The work will be coordinated by Committed to Green and the news was first broken on the Foundation’s e-newsletter ‘Foreum’
This builds on previous excellent initiatives at Valderrama in 1997 and The Belfry in 2002. The main areas of attention are transport, waste management, communicating an environmental message and protecting the site. The K-Club themselves are keen to dovetail the environmental activities for the event with their own ongoing environmental management programme.
It is anticipated that the Golfing Union of Ireland, the GCSAI, Failte Ireland, the Irish Heritage Service and Race Against Waste will also feed into, and benefit from, the project, as they are already working together in Ireland on golf environmental issues. More details will be announced early in 2006.
