Wilson Golf – whose brand has won more majors in golf than any other brand has stepped up to the plate to give junior golf development a big boost in the ASEAN region..
In an unprecedented move, Doug Thiel, Wilson Golf’s Global Director of Marketing has approved a generous equipment support programme to the Asian Junior Golf Foundation under the patronage of Vietnamese philanthropist Mr. Le Van Kiem.
Mr. Le, a keen golfer himself, has set up the foundation to help less fortunate children within the countries that make up the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) take up the game of golf. “The foundation’s main mission is to identify talented children and to give them some needed support to improve their playing abilities,” explained Mr. Le.
“I am delighted to know that Wilson Golf has come forward to support this initiative and it is my hope that more like minded organisations in golf do the same,” Mr. Le added.
Commenting on the equipment support programme, Mike Sebastian, chief executive officer of the Asia Pacific Golf Group said, “What Wilson Golf has done is a remarkable gesture on the part of a major brand to help grow junior golf in Asia, and I am confident that this will go some way towards helping a select number of gifted juniors in the region.”
The players who will benefit from this programme will be identified by respective golf associations within ASEAN and the golf equipment sets will be given to the associations to present to the selected juniors.
