A new driving range at Bootle Golf Course in Merseyside is set to open next week.
The new £240,000 floodlit, 10-day range at the Sefton Council-run facility aims to provide existing players with the opportunity to practice more, as well as giving new golfers a chance to give the sport a try before progressing onto the golf course itself.
The range is open for public use between 8am-9pm from Sunday-Friday and from 8am-7pm on Saturdays. A bucket of 50 balls costs £4 or £6 for 100.
The range features a dedicated coaching bay, and the Council’s Green Sefton team is currently in the process of appointing a PGA Professional to provide this training.
Councillor Ian Moncur, Sefton Council’s Cabinet Member for Health and Wellbeing, said: “When we consulted local people and course users about how they wanted to see facilities improved and expanded they told us was they wanted more practice facilities, which is just they will have from January 31. I am delighted that this new facility will enable local golfers to carry on practising their game through the remainder of the winter months where the short days can make it difficult to fit in an 18-hole round.
“This is an exciting week for golf in Sefton with announcement that July’s Cazoo Classic will be held at Hillside, on Sefton’s glorious Golf Coast and our new Bootle driving range gives local people to give golf a try and might even give a future Cazoo Classic champion the first step in their career.”
