The inaugural Faldo Futures Final was held as alongside the DP World Tour, British Masters at Faldo Futures on Wednesday 28th August and was hailed a great success by all involved. 144 7 – 12 year old boys and girls competed in age defined categories in the final of The Faldo Futures.
Over 50 golf clubs staged initial qualifying rounds back in April, attracting 1,000+ participants aged 7 to 12 years old. From there, the top two from each age category played in one of six regional finals held across the UK in May half-term, with the top 3 from each age category going through to Wednesday’s final at The Belfry.
The event was partnered and supported by R&A, England Golf, Golf Foundation, PGA and DP World tour, who all recognise the need for young boys and girls to get into golf and have the opportunity to play on a national platform.
Commenting on the event, Matthew Faldo said, “Today was the culmination of our first Faldo Futures and we’re delighted with how the initiative has been received by golf clubs and children across the UK. Some of the golf we witnessed today was exceptional and we’re really excited about the talent coming through. Above all, however, we saw children competing hard, but with respect for fellow participants and showing great etiquette of the sport.”
Sir Nick was in in attendance watching the next generation of players along with giving a master class clinic and connecting with the players, along with visits from professional tour players and interactions with Trackman and other partners. Commenting Sir Nick said ‘Growing the game of golf is the mission of The Faldo Series and the new arm of The Faldo Futures gives all clubs in the country an opportunity to open their doors to junior golf”.
Sir Nick went on to present the prizes giving all our congratulations to all participants and the winners, who all receive invitations to the IMG Junior World Finals held at Torrey Pines South in California, USA.
