Leading figures from across the golf industry were full of praise for North Foreland’s Northcliffe Course as they gathered at the Kent club during Open week.

As part of a golf day organised by Legacy Golf Advisors (LGA) in aid of the Golf Foundation, attendees had the chance to play the club’s unique 18-hole par-three Northcliffe Course, before a networking event and lunch.

Guests included representatives from the Golf Foundation, PGA, All-Party Parliamentary Group for Golf, leading media outlets Golf Monthly and National Club Golfer, Club Car, Toro, Golf Genius, Sports Marketing Surveys and Azalea.

The Northcliffe Course is the oldest course of its kind in the country and the only short course designed by esteemed architects Herbert Fowler and Tom Simpson. It is perfect for those newer to golf, families looking for an outdoor activity to do together or more experienced players looking to hone their short game on holes that vary in distance from 50 to 140 yards.

Offering stunning views of the sea from every tee, the course boasts an enviable reputation for its excellent course conditions and fun, yet challenging, adaptation of golf. Its informal approach, with no dress code, as well as the opportunity to play a round in less than two hours, makes it a big hit with those looking for a relaxing game after work with friends.

Brendon Pyle, CEO of the Golf Foundation said, said: “Our mission statement is ‘Introducing young people to golf – from all backgrounds – creating golfers’ with a fundamental aim of getting more youngsters into the game, reducing the barriers to participation and producing the next generation of player.

“The Northcliffe Course helps with all of those things and offers the perfect stepping-stone into the sport. Ideal for beginners – yet also a test for lower handicappers on their pitching, chipping and putting – it must be one of the best courses of its kind in the UK, especially with those spectacular coastal and lighthouse views!

“It was exceptional and thoroughly enjoyable. A huge congratulations must go to North Foreland and its greenkeepers for putting so much care and attention into the maintenance and condition of the course, but also recognising its importance.”

Chris Dowrick, North Foreland’s general manager, said: “Firstly, I’d like to thank everyone who attended the event and a huge thanks to Stuart Gillett from LGA for organising. It was a brilliant opportunity to showcase our highly-regarded Northcliffe Course and was lovely to receive so many compliments and positive feedback from those who certainly know what they’re talking about.

“As a club, we’re committed to making golf accessible for all and continue to grow the sport off the back of the boom in popularity during the Covid lockdowns. The Northcliffe Course allows us to help beginners learn the game, while also appealing to families, at an affordable price of just £10 a round.”
