FUN Golf gets families playing

12.57am 11th August 2016 - Growing the Game

FUNGolfFun is the name of the game! That’s the promise to families who can have a whale of a time while getting into golf.

Golf Kingdom in Essex is at the heart of a joint project with England Golf to highlight golf as a great game for all the generations to play together.

It follows England Golf’s Family Golf Month and is attracting families to try the game by joining a three week FUN Golf Course at any time until November and enjoying Adventure Golf on the Moby Golf course.

Each one-hour FUN Golf session is delivered by a PGA professional using adapted equipment, with colourful clubs and tennis-style balls.  Players can also ‘warm up’ before each session, hitting against giant targets on a large inflatable.

It’s anticipated that over 250 people will take the FUN Golf courses and they can then move on to other opportunities, including coaching with PGA professionals. It is expected there will be a good level of transition from FUN Golf to the traditional golfing game.

“It’s golf, but not as you know it!” said Scott Cranfield from Golf Kingdom at Chadwell Heath, Essex. “Golf is a terrific game for all the family and we encourage lots of laughter. There’s no stuffiness here!”

England Golf is also working with Golf Kingdom to help them understand their customers and potential customers. This information is being used to shape publicity for the campaign on social media and with other promotional material.

England Golf and Golf Kingdom will also survey Moby Golf and FUN Golf customers to find out more about what families want from golf and what they see as barriers to participation.

Claire Hodgson, England Golf’s Head of Participation, said: “It’s great to be able to show families that golf is a game which all the generations can enjoy together. We’re delighted to be working with Golf Kingdom and look forward to sharing the results of this project to help other clubs and golf centres to attract more families.”

Kate Cooper, Managing Director at Golf Kingdom, added: “The feedback so far from people who have taken part in our FUN Golf course has been very positive.  Many have said that it is a great introduction into a sport that they have never played before. We have had many family situations, where mum and dad have both enjoyed playing alongside their children.  We’re looking forward to many more taking part.”
