England Golf shortlisted for two FEVO Sport Industry awards

11.16am 21st March 2025 - Growing the Game

England Golf has been named one of six finalists in two categories at the FEVO Sport Industry Awards, with the national governing body nominated for Sport Organisation of the Year and the Wellness at Work award.

The 2025 edition of the FEVO Sport Industry Awards will take place at Evolution London in Battersea on May 15.

England Golf is going up against the likes of Liverpool FC, British Cycling, Sail GP and Bupa.

This recognition acknowledges what has been a stellar 2024 for England Golf, which has seen all 1735 affiliated golf clubs and 60 county unions in the country achieve their Respect in Golf status, by completing the England Golf Terms of Affiliation.

2024 was a record-breaking year for England Golf, with the most scores submitted via the World Handicap System ever in a single calendar year, with club membership numbers growing to 730,000 in 2024.

England Golf CEO Jeremy Tomlinson said: “These nominations at the sport industry’s leading awards ceremony are testament to all of the work being done across the organisation and by the countless volunteers within the game, working together to help make golf more inclusive and accessible.

“In the last year we have made great strides towards challenging long-held perceptions of the game, helping our clubs and counties to introduce golf to new players from different backgrounds. The increases we’ve seen in the number of competition scores, general play scores, 18-hole scores and nine-hole scores reflect the progress that has been made.”

iGolf has proven to be instrumental in creating a pathway for golfers into club membership, encouraging regularity of play. There has been a 12% increase in sign-ups compared to this time last year, with 13,350 iGolf subscribers having now transitioned into club membership.

In the first full year since iPlay was launched, 6,500 people registered. The initiative supports the pathway from beginner to regular golfer, creating an opportunity to educate and inspire on what golfing facilities are available to them.

Both iGolf and iPlay are removing barriers and creating entry for all levels of ability, as part of England Golf’s mission to make golf more inclusive and accessible.

As part of the affiliation programme, there are now 75 new venues – such as driving ranges, golf simulators and adventure golf courses – affiliated with England Golf. This is helping to bring new players of different backgrounds to all forms of the game. The affiliation numbers started at zero in January 2024.

England Golf is also working with Mind and Mental Health First Aid England for a powerful new initiative called Fore Your Mind, to support better mental health in the golf community.

The governing body has also launched an all-new webpage dedicated to supporting female golfers. ‘Golf Fore Her’ has been created to provide guidance and support on the many life stages of a female, from the basics to the impact on your golf, and how playing golf could potentially help you.
