The British and International Golf Greenkeepers Association, in conjunction with other global greenkeeper and course superintendent groups, is recognising those who help keep golf courses enjoyable and sustainable with an international ‘Thank a Greenkeeper Day’.

Thank a Greenkeeper Day will be celebrated on September 12, when all those who appreciate their valuable work are encouraged to join in the conversation on social media using the hashtag #ThankAGreenkeeper. In addition, golf courses and other groups are encouraged to provide special recognition for their greenkeeping teams on that date.

Working alongside BIGGA are several other international greenkeeping associations, such as: the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GCSAA), the Australian Sports Turf Managers Association (ASTMA), the Canadian Golf Superintendents Association (CGSA) and the Federatio of European Golf Greenkeepers Associations (FEGGA). As a collective, the groups represent more than 31,000 golf management professionals that operate in 78 countries of the world.

Last year’s Thank a Greenkeeper Day attracted support across a wide range of social media platforms, as well as real-world interactions. In total, the combined #ThankAGreenkeeper and #ThanksASuper initiative made 10,401,354 impressions on social media, with the Greenkeeper hashtag, which is mainly used in the UK, producing over 70% of the total impressions. At various points in the day the combined hashtags trended 8th in the UK on Twitter.
