UK Golf Show gives charity support

8.00am 10th August 2007 - Exhibitions & Conferences

The UK Golf Show has pledged its support as a sponsor of the Macmillan Celebrity Golf Classic, hosted by Coronation Street legend Johnny Briggs. All monies raised at the one-day event at The Belfry on 11th September 2007 will go to Macmillan Cancer Support, the UK Golf Shows’ chosen charity.

The UK Golf Show, held at Whittlebury Park Golf & Country Club in Northamptonshire from Friday 11th to Sunday 13th April 2008, will also field two teams of three that will each be joined by a well known celebrity from sport or television to play on the world famous championship course, The Brabazon, prior to the Masters Tournament.

Twenty corporate teams will have the opportunity to play in this eighteen-hole betterball competition and a host of celebrities such as Jasper Carrott, Ron Atkinson and Rick Wakeman, who along with Johnny, have also pledged their support for the event. The event will conclude with an evening of entertainment including a presentation dinner in the Sutton Suite.

Macmillan Cancer Support improves the lives of people affected by cancer. It provides practical, medical, emotional and financial support and they push for better cancer care. The number of Macmillan health professionals has risen to over 3,500 and includes nurses, doctors, radiographers, dieticians, occupational therapists and many other specialists who provide more integrated care to people with cancer.

Lee Haggan, UK Golf Show marketing director, explains, “The show has always supported Macmillan and Johnny attended last year’s show to raise funds for the charity. When we heard about the event, we offered our support straight away. We will also be fundraising on their behalf at the UK Golf Show in 2008.”

The UK Golf Show, Europe’s first public outdoor golf exhibition, will give visitors a total golf day experience and allow them to play on real greens, real fairways and even in real bunkers.

This new-look outdoor event will make use of Whittlebury Park’s top-class facilities, including two 18-hole championship courses divided between manufacturers, features and competitions. Golfers can test the latest equipment on four fifteen-bay full length driving range, shop in purpose built exhibitor villages and watch seminars and fashion shows on the live stage. There will be a host of family entertainment, activities and a camping and caravan site for those who want to make a weekend of it.
