The Golf Club Secretary’s Show

12.10am 20th February 2004 - Exhibitions & Conferences

The publishers of ‘The Golf Club Secretary‘ (GCS) have organised a combined trade exhibition and golf day to be held at Hawkstone Park near Shrewsbury at the end of April.
Michael Coffey, publisher of GCS explains, “For some time now, The GCS has been aware of the high costs encountered by all who wish to exhibit at trade shows. In addition, even those exhibitions that are well established such as BTME/ClubHouse, predominantly cater for equipment and machinery that is used on the course.
“We therefore felt that something more pertinent to the all-round needs of the modern-day secretary/manager might prove popular and worthwhile. In addition we wanted to make it fun so we also considered the other elements of a ‘good day out‘ and came up with a competitive round of golf on a first-class course, the company of one’s peers, a fine meal in attractive surroundings.”
The exhibition and tournament will take place on Monday 26th April 26th and Tuesday 27th April. Effectively the event is split into four slots – morning and afternoon on each of the days – with up to 40 secretary/managers playing in each of the four tournaments.
The excellent Hawkstone Park Golf Club and Hotel in Shropshire is famous for its long association with Sandy Lyle and his father, Alex. There are two challenging and attractive golf courses – The Hawkstone and The Windmill will both be used for the competition – and the location offers easy access to a very wide area. Both Birmingham and Manchester are within a one-hour drive and it is hoped that people will attend from as far away as Leeds and London.
“We expect to have approximately 15 exhibitors,” says Michael Coffey. “covering the wide array of products and services that will be of interest to anyone running a golf club such as finance, legal, computer systems, equipment and machinery, yardage charts and so on. Rather than presenting a bewildering array of companies offering similar or identical products, there will only be one exhibitor per market sector.”
So far, the following companies have signified their participation:

The golf and exhibition is open to the secretary/manager and/or assistant of any golf club, whether a subscriber to The GCS or not. Entry will be free for those who just wish to visit for the exhibition, the meal and a chance to circulate and meet others involved in the running of a club. There will also be a draw amongst the non-playing secretary/managers, for a contribution to their club’s junior section.
Entry to the golf competition is just £20, and this will be used to generate the prizes for the four winners, each of whom will receive £500 towards junior coaching at his/her club and entry to The Golf Club Secretary – 8th Open Championship Final at Royal Liverpool on Monday, 17th May.
Golf entry and exhibition registration forms are available from The Golf Club Secretary, Broadside Publishing, PO Box 72 72, Frinton on Sea, Essex CO13 0BP Tel 01255 676727
