12.17pm 1st September 2017 - Exhibitions & Conferences

Three members of the burgeoning Golf Business International – the UK-based group providing consultancy services to the golf industry – will participate in the 2017 Africa Golf Summit, next week.

The summit takes place at the Silver Lakes Golf and Country Club, in Pretoria, on September 5/6, and will be combined with the two-day African Turf Academy workshop.

Golf Business International chairman Howard Swan, will be joined at the event – which focusses on how golf may increase African and global tourism throughout the continent – by two South Africa-based members, Kwakye Donkor and Pete Richardson.

Swan will participate in a session entitled ‘Golf for all’ and will share the platform with Wendy Cole, of the Royal and Ancient Golf Club, in putting forward ideas for the game’s development and expansion in Africa.

And he and a South African colleague, architect Peter Matkovich, will be presenters in a workshop on design and development.

Meanwhile, Donkor will present a talk on ‘digital and social media marketing’, while Richardson and Donkor will be on the panel with Swan for the ‘Golf for all’ debate.

The R&A, together with representatives of industry, from Africa, Europe and the United States, will also contribute to the workshop’s proceedings, centring on the opportunity for the further development and advancement of educational programmes in the various aspects of the game at the academy event.

Swan said: “I am very pleased to be returning to South Africa and to be able to help spread the game at grass-roots level throughout the continent where it remains in its infancy. The joining of the summit with the workshop of the African Turf Academy is a fine step forward, linking the wider aspects of the game and golf industry with the work of the academy in greenkeeping, and golf management education and training.

“I am hopeful that the summit will see the further development of the game and, as it expands, my colleagues in Golf Business International will be able to contribute to the evolution of the golf business which comes with it.”

Golf Business International, formed originally as the Golf Consultants Association in 1999, is unique in the UK in its ability to make available a team of highly-respected and experienced golf industry professionals to deal with any aspect of the business of golf through from conception to end.
