Scottish golf fans had an unprecedented chance to get up close and personal with some of the greatest trophies in the game at The Scotland, Home of Golf exhibition space at the Scottish Golf Show this weekend.

Through its association with the leading events in golf, EventScotland organised the appearance of 13 major trophies from across the world tours at the show, all of which have been competed for in Scotland at some stage in their recent history.

It was the first time the 13 trophies, which include The Ryder Cup, The Claret Jug and The Solheim Cup, have been displayed together in the one room and illustrates Scotland’s commitments to hosting the biggest events in the sport.

The Scottish Golf Show at The Royal Highland Centre, Ingliston from Friday 28th March to Sunday 30th March, was sponsored by VisitScotland for a ninth consecutive year.

Mike Cantlay, chairman of VisitScotland, said: “If any proof was required that Scotland plays on the world stage when it comes to hosting the biggest golf events, then having these 13 incredible trophies under one roof at the Scottish Golf Show delivers exactly that.

“Scotland is known throughout the world as The Home of Golf thanks to our wonderful history and collection of more than 550 great courses but we are also the home of great golf events and having iconic trophies such as The Claret Jug, The Ryder Cup and The Solheim Cup illustrates just how important Scotland is to the game of golf.”

The trophy exhibition tells the story of Scotland’s commitment to supporting golf events in the country as part of its preparations for The 2014 Ryder Cup. Events such as The Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open, Scottish Hydro Challenge, Aberdeen Asset Management Ladies Scottish Open and the SSE Scottish Seniors Open have all been supported by EventScotland as part of Scotland’s Ryder Cup host nation commitments.

Elsewhere, EventScotland’s agreements with The Open Championship, The Senior Open Championship and the RICOH Women’s British Open ensures that Scotland is a regular host of Major Championships.

Dr Cantlay added: “Although Scotland is the Home of Golf, these great events do not take place here by accident and without a great deal of hard work by a number of people. I am delighted that we can bring these trophies to the Scottish Golf Show and use them to tell golf fans the story of why they are held in Scotland on a regular basis.

“In a year where Scotland is due to welcome the world in 2014, the Scottish Golf Show is a tremendous way to kick off the golfing season. It will undoubtedly be one that lives long in the memory.”

The Scottish Golf Show and VisitScotland have teamed-up to great effect since the show launched in 2006 and show organiser Tom Lovering is confident that this collaborative success will continue next year.

“VisitScotland has given its support to the Scottish Golf Show from the very beginning and we are very grateful to them for that,” said Lovering. “We are delighted to welcome them once again to the show in 2014 and having these 13 incredible trophies alongside the other great attractions within the show will help make this year the best yet.”
