Golf industry conference announced

The European Golf Industry Association is hosting a one-day conference at The Wentworth Club next month. The EGIA believes that the way ahead for golf lies in a national co-ordinated strategy

The European Golf Industry Association (EGIA) is hosting a conference at The Wentworth Club on Wednesday 17th October, 2001.

The EGIA has invited key people who have an interest in the growth of golf to attend and both the Minister of Sport and the Chief Executive of UK Sport have agreed to make presentations. Other representatives from governing bodies within golf include Duncan Weir, Golf Development Secretary of the R&A.

“This is a real opportunity for everyone to learn at first hand where the Government stands regarding our sport and how golf can meet the challenges of the Government’s ‘Plan for Sport’,” said EGIA Chairman, Cliff Dews. “The private sector has been very successful in facilitating this type of debate with both tennis and angling and the EGIA executive feels that is an appropriate role for our industry association.

“It is also an opportunity for us to build bridges or to strengthen existing relationships with other organisations,” he continued. “This is not an EGIA day, it is an industry day.”
