Golfing superstar Matteo Manassero has signed up as a special panel guest for the 2014 HSBC Golf Business Forum at The Westin Abu Dhabi Golf Resort & Spa, Abu Dhabi, 28-30 April.
A four-time winner on the European Tour at the tender age of 20, Matteo Manassero shot to fame in 2009 by becoming the youngest ever British Amateur Champion before finishing tied 13th at the Open Championship as an amateur, winning the Silver Medal in the process.
In keeping with his reputation as a prodigious talent, Manassero became the youngest ever winner of a European Tour event by claiming the 2010 Castelló Masters Costa Azahar at the age of 17 before adding further titles at the 2011 Maybank Malaysian Open and 2012 Barclays Singapore Open. He clinched his biggest victory to date at last year’s BMW PGA Championship where he won in a play-off, underlining his stature as one of the world’s best golfers.
As part of his Forum role, Manassero will join a discussion panel of experts including Ed Smith, the author and Times journalist and Dr Geoff McGrath, Managing Director of Mclaren Technologies, to provide his unique insight on one of the hottest topics facing the industry; how the next generation of performance data analysis is changing professional sport.
In front of the packed auditorium, which will attract more than 250 golf industry delegates from more than 40 countries, Manassero will discuss the role of cutting edge technology in elite performance as well as commenting on how technology and sports science is helping sportsman push the boundaries.
“I hope I’m able to provide a slightly different perspective to the debate. I always enjoy returning to Abu Dhabi and to be there in a slightly different capacity is a nice change for me,” he said. “I’m really interested in all aspects of golf so I think I will learn a lot by listening to so many important people from within the sport.”
Commenting on the discussion panel, HSBC Global Head of Sponsorship and Events, Giles Morgan, said, “I think it is very exciting that a young player of Matteo’s calibre is keen to get involved in the Golf Business Forum. He will certainly provide a very different outlook for us to consider and is a great addition to the panel
