The European Institute of Golf Course Architects has announced that it will be hosting its next Annual Meeting in Costa del Sol, Spain. The meeting will be based in Purto Banús at the 4 star H10 Andalucía Plaza Hotel and will begin on Monday 20 March 2017. The week of events will include two days of study for students on the EIGCA’s Vocational Qualification in Golf Course Design Programme, the EIGCA AGM and the Annual Conference.

Two of the region’s best golf courses have been selected for the annual President’s Cup golf competition. The first round will be played on Wednesday 22 March at Sotogrande. Opened in 1964, Sotogrande was the first golf course to be designed in Europe by Robert Trent Jones Sr, the first to plant Bermuda 419 fairways and the first to install a fully automatic, tee to green irrigation system. Sotogrande has just undergone a complete restoration to return the course to its former glory with the results being unveiled in July of this year.

The second round of the President’s Cup will be played on Thursday 23 March at Real Club de Golf Las Brisas. After completing Sotogrande, Robert Trent Jones Sr moved on to create the wonderful golf course at Las Brisas which opened in 1968.  Like Sotogrande, Las Brisas has recently been substantially renovated and is once again rated as one of the best courses on the Costa del Sol. Also that day the AGM will be held and the day will end with the Industry Partners’ Dinner.

The EIGCA’s Annual Conference will be held on Friday 24 March at the H10 Andalucía Plaza Hotel, and this will be followed by the President’s Dinner which will mark the official end of the week’s events.

EIGCA President Tom Mackenzie said; “We are really excited about taking our annual meeting to Costa del Sol next year. Not only will it present a great opportunity for us to visit and study two of the most influential golf courses on European golf, it will also allow us to discuss some of the major issues for golf course architects working in southern Europe. I’m sure our Members and Partners will thoroughly enjoy visiting this region and I look forward to meeting them in March”.

The theme and speakers for the annual conference will be announced nearer the date.  Watch www.eigca.org/2017agm.ink for updates.
