LIV Golf launches sustainabilty impact leaderboard

2.43pm 25th July 2024 - Environment & Sustainability

LIV Golf has announced the creation of its Impact Leaderboard, a first-of-its-kind platform for golf that establishes a competitive aspect to the impact and sustainability work being carried out by the league’s teams and players as part of LIV Golf’s Potential, Unleashed initiative.

Sustainability and social impact are at the heart of Potential, Unleashed, a program announced in 2023 reflecting LIV Golf’s commitment to enabling and inspiring a better tomorrow through the game of golf.

LIV Golf’s Impact Leaderboard tracks the efforts being made by the league’s 13 teams to give back to their communities, support young people around the world, and promote sustainability. As they have from the start of LIV Golf, teams will continue to support charitable causes and initiatives they are passionate about, from increasing diversity in golf, to educating young people, to environmental sustainability, and more. For their charitable work they are awarded points throughout the year, and the teams with the highest totals will be announced as winners ahead of next season.

Point scoring is awarded by a panel of experts from Think Beyond, LIV Golf’s global social impact and sustainability consultancy, and the LIV Golf Social Impact and Sustainability team. The top four teams will be awarded $150,000, with 100% of the prizes to be donated to the teams’ impact and sustainability programs.

“LIV Golf teams are committed to making a positive impact through the game of golf and the Impact Leaderboard provides a stage to showcase the athletes’ competitive spirits off the course in a truly meaningful way,” said Jake Jones, LIV Golf’s Senior Vice President of Impact and Sustainability. “As the league’s teams continue to develop and elevate their programs that support communities around the world, these initiatives will deliver a comprehensive impact and sustainability effort for years to come.”

Three teams that have made a significant impact already are Majesticks GC, Smash GC and Iron Heads GC. This week, the Majesticks announced a partnership with their flagship impact program “Little Sticks” and Complete PE, an interactive Physical Education resource, to positively impact nearly 40,000 students in more than 200 schools annually and provide every child access to the game of golf as part of their school’s Physical Education curriculum.

In 2024, Smash GC introduced the Smash for Success Junior Golfer Scholarship and the Mentor of the Year Award with the inaugural recipients celebrated at LIV Golf Houston last month and at the LIV Golf Team Championship event in September.

Iron Heads GC’s community initiative, Green-Up Your Local Muni, is designed to impact local junior golf programs by encouraging and inspiring junior golfers to leave their local municipal golf course cleaner and greener than when they found it. To date, Iron Heads GC have partnered with local Junior Golf Programs at five events across four countries, positively impacting hundreds of young people and thousands of golfers this season.

“Sports teams and athletes have an incredible platform and opportunity to drive societal and environmental change,” said Radha Balani, Managing Partner, Think Beyond. “The Impact Leaderboard not only shines a light on the brilliant work happening across LIV Golf’s Potential, Unleashed program, but it incentivizes players and teams to push each other further, ultimately creating a greater positive impact for people and communities.”
