England Golf partners with Zellar to accelerate sustainability across member clubs

9.23am 9th February 2024 - Environment & Sustainability

England Golf has launched a new initiative with SMART sustainability platform Zellar to help over 1,700 golf clubs in England go greener.

The relationship has potential to save England Golf affiliates a combined total of £1.5m and reduce their total carbon emissions by over 1,200 tonnes by 2026.

The programme follows a successful pilot in which over 40 golf clubs across the country used Zellar to reduce costs and emissions.

Using Zellar, a SMART digital sustainability platform, golf clubs can measure, plan, activate, report and share their sustainability journeys and save money, all in one place, and wrapped up in one simple score.

Following Zellar’s sustainability plan can help the average club reduce its energy consumption by up to 33 per cent and unlock estimated savings of up to £4,100.  Since Zellar are an England Golf preferred supplier in this space, golf facilities can claim 10 per cent off a one-year licence to Zellar – valued at £299. To access the discount visit zellar.com/england-golf and enter the code ‘EGC10’.

Zellar supports businesses to measure and minimise their impact through building a tailored action plan based on their size and sector. Every Zellar business is given a sustainability score, whereby the more action they take, the higher their score, making it simple to share your progress with the people who matter.

By helping organisations to lower their energy, waste, and water usage, as well as supporting the adoption of green technology and identifying biodiversity and volunteering opportunities, every customised Zellar plan can effectively cut costs, emissions and energy consumption.

England Golf Sustainability Manager, Owen James, said: “Zellar excites us as an organisation because of the step-by-step approach. Anyone, from a sustainability expert to someone who has never even heard the word emissions before, can utilise the platform and make positive change off the back of it.

“Through this relationship, we are encouraging golf clubs to track their emissions, make positive changes, and future proof themselves as a business. By identifying energy and emissions hotspots, tracking change and renewing contracts within the app, Zellar is a one-stop-shop for golf clubs to support their drive for a more sustainable future.”

Gary Styles, the founder of Zellar, commented: “Golf clubs have great potential to reduce water, energy and overall consumption, and have already shown that they’re engaged in sustainability and committed to making the game more sustainable. They have the potential to set an example for how sustainability can work in sport and pave the way for others to follow.

“Collaborating with England Golf is something we’re really excited about at Zellar, and we look forward to helping more golf clubs across the country to tackle sustainability.”

A total of 47 clubs have already joined Zellar to measure their emissions and plan their sustainability journey, and, to date, have implemented 244 operational changes and made over 200 energy adjustments which will drive down energy consumption and bills.

Zellar has also been named as sponsor of the Sustainability Project of the Year award at next week’s England Golf Centenary Dinner & Awards.
