Wentworth maintains GEO Certified status

Wentworth Club, the home of the BMW PGA Championship, which gets under way today [October 8], has officially been recognised as one of the UK’s most sustainable and environmentally-responsible golf clubs having maintained its GEO Certified status.

In becoming GEO Certified, the Surrey-based club has been rewarded for its pursuance of excellence and outstanding work to foster nature, conserve resources and support the community. The programme is assured by the GEO Foundation, the international not-for-profit entirely dedicated to advancing sustainability in golf. Wentworth is one of 42 clubs in England to have been successfully evaluated.

Neil Coulson, General Manager at Wentworth Club, said: “We are thrilled that Wentworth Club has been recognised for our efforts to drive sustainability across our operations and are delighted to remain among a group of the world’s most environmentally-minded clubs. Our club continues to undertake some fantastic work in this area, and we remain committed to further reducing our environmental impact and enhancing the natural landscape which surrounds our beautiful club.”

Wentworth, which is home to three courses, was awarded GEO Certified status following its ability to demonstrate continued excellence since the club’s original certification two years ago.

Kenny Mackay, Wentworth Club’s Director of Golf and Grounds

Kenny Mackay, Director of Golf and Grounds, said: “Achieving this accolade has been a real team effort and it recognises all the work that goes in to ensuring social and environmental enhancements around the grounds. Special thanks must go to Stefan Carter and Dan Clarke for their continued efforts to ensure sustainability remains a priority.”

Richard Allison, Manager – GEO Certified (Facilities) said: “Congratulations to all at Wentworth Club for their ongoing commitment to sustainable golf. The club has successfully been GEO Certified for the second time, which is testament to all the great work being done by the greenkeeping team and operational staff.

“At a time when the importance of sustainability in golf, sport and society continues to rise, it’s fantastic to see Wentworth embracing the need to foster nature, conserve resources, take climate action and strengthen community. This achievement is very well-deserved, and we hope it will inspire others to do even more to further sustainable golf in England and across the world.”
