Troon Golf to manage Faldo & O’Connor courses

12.05am 29th November 2006 - Course Development

Oce®nico Developments’ new five-star Amendoeira resort, which features two 18-hole golf courses designed by Nick Faldo and Christy O’Connor Jnr, will be managed by Troon Golf®, a world leader in upscale golf course management, development and marketing.

The agreement will see Troon Golf manage all golf operations at the Amendoeira resort, which is currently being built on a 640-acre site near Silves in the Algarve and is scheduled for Phase One completion in late 2007.

Amendoeira is Oce®nico’s latest flagship development in the Algarve, featuring the two 18-hole courses together with a Portuguese PGA Golf Academy and state-of-the-art golf simulation with tuition and analysis, which will all be managed by Troon.

In addition, Troon Golf will be responsible for operations throughout the clubhouse, which provides a range of facilities including a golf and sports lounge, a fully stocked pro shop, bar, restaurant and banquet facilities.

Simon Burgess, director of Oce®nico Developments, said, “We’ve designed Amendoeira to be a world-class golf resort. The quality of the development is second to none and to reflect this we wanted to ensure the on-going management of the courses, greens and clubhouse exceeds expectations for every owner and visitor.

“To do this we needed a partner that offers not just experience in the golf market, but also an exceptional enthusiasm and commitment to getting the service right from start to finish. We are already working with Troon Golf at our courses in the Azores so we have seen the huge contribution they have made to their success. Amendoeira is the next step in our relationship and we are looking forward to providing a world-class golfing experience when they open in early 2008.”

Located in the district of Silves, 25 minutes from Faro airport, Amendoeira is set against the spectacular backdrop of Portugal’s Monchique mountains and is surrounded by local flora and fauna, including more than fifty species of birds. The historic town of Silves, which offers a choice of shops, bars and restaurants, is just six kms away while the beaches of the Algarve are less than a 10-minute drive from the resort.

“We are thrilled to be expanding our relationship with the Oce®nico Group,” added Troon Golf managing director, Europe, Middle East and Africa, Bruce Glasco. “Amendoeira Golf Resort will offer visitors an exceptional golf experience with superb course conditions and outstanding service. This is the Troon Golf ExperienceSM!”

Amendoeira offers a choice of accommodation for overseas property buyers, with the architecture beautifully designed to reflect the local Moorish influence. The residences range from luxury four and five bedroom villas with private swimming pools, to three bedroom villas with an optional swimming pool, and two- and three- bedroom apartments with a communal pool. All properties have views of the golf courses.

For sports enthusiasts the Amendoeira Sporting Club will offer sporting and training facilities, including a full size football pitch, tennis/paddle courts and lawn bowling greens.

For families the Vila Amendoeira is designed for children and offers an interactive arcade, kids club, adventure playground and crèche. There are also outdoor and indoor swimming pools, a restaurant and bar, a newsagent and, for those who want to stay in touch with the outside world, an internet cafà©.

The Oce®nico Group has future golf developments being finalised on Portugal’s Silver Coast in Obidos, and Azores Golf Islands in the Azores.
