Tarafo Bay has purchased of the first parcel of land required for the development of a major new golf and leisure resort in Boa Vista, Cape Verde.
This acquisition marks a major milestone in bringing forward a new, thoughtfully designed destination that will blend world-class amenities with sustainability and the island’s natural beauty and vibrant culture.
Tarafo Bay has worked closely with the Cabo Verde Government’s development agency, The Sociedade de Desenvolvimento Turístico de Ilhas da Boa Vista e Maio (SDTIBM), to ready the site for this major development. This collaboration ensures the project moves forward in alignment with the island’s long-term vision for sustainable growth and prosperity.
Phase one of the project will bring investment, jobs, and long-term opportunities to the local community, while positioning Boa Vista as a premier destination for sustainable tourism and lifestyle living.

The Tarafo Bay development, which is scheduled to open at the end of 2027, spans 6km of coastline and will initially feature a, 7,100-yard, 18-hole championship golf course, private villas, branded residences, and a range of recreational amenities.
Three further golf courses are part of the long-term masterplan for the resort, which will use desalinated seawater for irrigation, using reverse osmosis machinery powered entirely by the resort’s own solar farm. The golf courses are being masterplanned by UK-based International Design Group, whose lead architect is Jon Hunt.
Speaking about the course, Hunt said: This is about creating a course that gives back. Golf should not just consume resources; it should regenerate landscapes, enrich communities, and inspire players. We want Cape Verde to stand as a global model for how golf can thrive sustainably.”

Tim Strawson, founder of Tarafo Bay, said: “We are incredibly proud to take this important step in Boa Vista. The purchase of this land represents not only the foundation of our vision, but also our commitment to working hand in hand with the local community through the Boa Vista Trust.
‘Together, we aim to create good employment, improve housing and infrastructure, and strengthen education, training, and medical support, while partnering with government to shape something truly special. Our goal is to deliver a development that celebrates the island’s natural charm, creates meaningful opportunities, and leaves a lasting positive legacy for generations to come.”
