Speedcut Contractors have constructed new tees, artificial pathways and installed drainage at the historic Chislehurst Golf Club in Kent. The superb course, founded in 1894, has an 18-hole course situated in 70 acres of parkland just 11 miles south-east of central London.
Speedcut rebuilt and extended the 7th tee, where the existing sleeper walling was suffering from age, and installed Huxley non-sand winter mats together with an artificial pathway to cure a wear problem between the 5th green and 6th tee.
A program of drainage is in place to deal with specific problem areas.
The Chislehurst course is small compared to others, nestled in amongst natural rolling features, but what it lacks in length it more than makes up for in character and a test of golfing accuracy.
“Chislehurst is one of those golf courses that combines splendour with beauty,” says Speedcut contracts manager Barry Pace. “Every feature was constructed to enhance the superb surroundings and demanding aspects of this tremendous golf course.
“With the lack of space and tight layout wear and traffic issues are exaggerated and all the work in this phase is planned to help the club maintain its high standards of presentation.”
The 18-hole course is a truly demanding test of accuracy rather than length, and challenges golfers of all abilities – consistent with the design influences of the great Harry S. Colt.
Barry says: “Chislehurst is a great old course that we enjoy working on and we are delighted to be with John Hunniset and his skilled greenkeeping team again on what is a superb golfing venue.”
Speedcut are also working on a number of other golf courses in the south, including Sundridge Park Golf Club, also in Kent, where tees have been renovated and greens improved, and The Leatherhead Golf Club, Surrey, where they are creating new water features, pathways and bunkers.
