Somabay Golf in Egypt has unveil a new par-3 course and short game arena that is designed to cater to all skill levels and provide golfers with the opportunity to fine tune their scoring game.
The 9-hole par 3 course at the Red Sea resort, which was designed by Tim Lobb and James Edwards, sits at the heart of Somabay’s expansive golfing complex and is floodlit to enable golfers to play at any time of the day or night.
Joining the par 3 course is the new 5,000 sqm2 Short Game Arena which provides 27 different zones for golfers to practice every shot imaginable. Dedicated zones within the Arena can also be reserved for professional practice, allowing coaches to work with clients without interruption.
The unveiling of the new facilities comes following The Cascades Golf Resort, Spa & Thalasso at Somabay’s recent recognition at the World Golf Awards, where the resort was awarded the prestigious title of ‘Egypt’s Best Golf Hotel’.
The new facilities join the destination’s existing Gary Player designed 18-hole championship course, which takes players on a journey through the Red Desert, with six holes positioned along the coastline, providing a dramatic contrast between the rugged coastline and the turquoise waters beyond.
Sustainability is at the heart of the development of Somabay Golf, with indigenous, water-saving plants having been increasingly incorporated into the facilities. The Gary Player championship course was also recently re-laid using Paspalum Platinum, which is tolerant to both salt and high temperatures, allowing for the reduction of water usage, while a new 5mw solar plant has also been implemented to reduce the destination’s carbon footprint.
