Nick Faldo was in Ireland last week as construction gathers pace at the spectacular Faldo Design project at Lough Erne in County Fermanagh. The six-time Major winner was at Lough Erne to assess the strategic elements of the detailed design plans, providing his own unique insights for what will certainly be a stunning addition to Europe’s current array of lakeland golf courses.
Faldo commented, “Things are progressing very nicely here at Lough Erne and I’m confident that this project will produce one of Europe’s – indeed one of the world’s – most visually stunning golf courses. I am struck by the sheer beauty of these surroundings every time I step on site and this is such an inspiring place to work; I am confident that will be reflected in the many strategic challenges that our design will feature. With 14 lakeside holes incorporated into the routing, the finished product will be one that is as demanding and challenging as it is uniquely stirring.”
Leading Irish golf course construction company, Sol Golf, started work at Lough Erne in March this year and the project will complete in late 2007 or early 2008. The 18-hole championship course meanders through dramatically rolling and diverse terrain, frequently visiting the shores of Castle Hume Lake and Lower Lough Erne.
