New Golf Greens in Tuscany

8.01am 23rd February 2012 - Course Development

Toscana Resort Castelfalfi looks forward to welcoming players this spring to their newly opened Lake Course, providing further opportunity to play on one of Tuscany’s most reputable, unspoilt golf courses.

Completed in November 2011, the 9 hole Lake Course designed by renowned German golf architect Rainer Preißmann, in cooperation with his Italian colleague Wilfried Moroder is ideal for all golfers whatever their handicap. The extensive golf facilities make up part of the larger estate project undertaken by TUI where the village of Castelfalfi is in the process of being renovated into a luxury residential and holiday destination. A range of properties including apartments and golf villas will be available across the estate for purchase from €230,000.

Preißmann comments: “We are proud of what we and everybody involved achieved and would like to thank the representatives of Toscana Resort Castelfalfi for making such a masterpiece possible. The incredible landscape still leaves us in awe.”

Akin to the rest of the development, Preißmann kept the principles of sustainable planning and development at the forefront of his mind: “It became clear at the design stage of the golf course that the landscape must be respected. We did not want to add artificial elements that would reduce the whole experience to just a golf course.”

The team at Castelfalfi were adamant that retaining and emphasising the course’s natural features was crucial and that sustainable water management systems were put in place to collect and save precious rainwater.

Complementing the Lake Course is the existing 18-hole Mountain Course which opened in 2010 and benefited from further upgrades last year. Considered one of the most challenging inItaly(Par 72), it is based on steep gradients and attracts players from afar with its picturesque holes and attractive water features. Notable course highlights include the finales of each half-round, holes 9 and 18 which are known for their steep descent and demand for accuracy.

Half-rounds at Castelfalfi conveniently start and finish by the clubhouse, where golfers can sit back and reflect on their day whilst enjoying a spectacular view of the Tuscan countryside. The clubhouse is set to be renovated in 2013 and will be constructed around two historical farmhouses offering an architectural design with a contemporary twist.

The residences at Castelfalfi are being promoted exclusively in the UK by Knight Frank.

Head of International Residential Development, James Price comments: “Castelfalfi offers owners a wonderful combination of first class facilities, hassle free living in a managed and secure environment and an incredible setting with the beautiful borgo perched above classic Tuscan scenery.  However, the approach to the development is also a strength with the fundamentals of infrastructure and commercial assets being put in place from the start, rather than waiting for residences to sell first.”
