The next exciting stage of the acclaimed Modry Las golf course is taking shape in the beautiful West Pomerania region of Poland. The foundations of a new, contemporary clubhouse are being laid alongside the Gary Player design, which was recognised in its first year as one of Europe’s top 100 courses.
Work started on the $2 million project in May, with the first stage of construction to be achieved by autumn.
When finished, the Modry Las clubhouse will include a spacious restaurant with a panoramic terrace overlooking the 18th green, a sports bar and lounge, extensive changing facilities and a golf boutique. In addition, there will be 11 guest suites, an exhibition gallery and an indoor golf practice room with a state-of-the-art simulator.
A team of architects from the US, Switzerland and Poland designed the contemporary structure to incorporate all the comforts of a country lodge. For instance, members’ lounges will offer the coziness of a roaring fire as well as exquisite views over the tranquil Radun Lake. There will also be the option of an intimate private dining room as well as a 60-cover restaurant featuring international cuisine served with Polish hospitality.
The goal is to make the new clubhouse a convivial place where guests can share good food and fine wines in a welcoming atmosphere, according to Arthur Gromadzki, chairman of Modry Las. “We want to create a place where members and visitors not only enjoy the experience of playing a world-class course, but can savour their time off the course as well,” he explained.
“I am very proud of the recognition we have received in a relatively short time,” he continued speaking days before the golf course’s first anniversary. “It is the result of a number of winning decisions made during the construction of the golf course. For instance, we delayed at times while considering the best positioning of various holes, but it paid off. The design has been praised by our membership and the industry in general. Now we are embarking on the next stage of development, which means creating a clubhouse befitting one of the best courses in Europe.”
While the clubhouse is being built, there are simultaneous plans to create expanded choices for leisure at the resort which will include tennis courts, a beach with water sports and bike trails. Also in the plans are 150 course-side plots for attractive, eco-friendly homes intended to blend into the rolling terrain with views overlooking lakes and forests. These are scheduled to launch in 2011.
