More improvements at Bundoran

7.20am 25th September 2006 - Course Development

The 1894 Harry Vardon designed Links at Bundoran, County Donegal, which began its renovation under Howard Swan’s direction with a rebunkering of the course last year, is continuing its improvement programme with the redesign of five holes with three new greens and two new tees.
This design change lengthens the course by some 100 yards and begins to bring it into some comparison with its sister links of north western Ireland in Rosses Point, Donegal County and Rosapena.
The master-plan for the course, which lies alongside the Great Northern Hotel high over Mullaghmore Bay, will eventually create a new Bundoran Links, of some 6400 yards, which will rank as one of the region’s finest.
James Edwards, architect at Swan Golf Designs and responsible for the renovation project adds, “We are very excited to commence the second phase of renovation at Bundoran. The feedback we are receiving following the rebunkering work and the significant improvement of the course’s strategy has been extremely positive. Now we are concentrating on two of the finest greens locations on the entire property, located high up on the cliffs edge overlooking the Bay of Bundoran. Not only will these alterations improve the technical performance of the greens, but they will improve the playing experience of this classic golf course as well.”
The new holes will be completed in mid October and are scheduled for play next season.
