Long Term Investment for Goodwood Courses

8.34am 26th October 2011 - Course Development

Golf At Goodwood is making a massive £500,000 investment in machinery to boost the playing qualities of its two outstanding golf courses and enhance the enjoyment of visitors who flock from all over the world.

The new venture in partnership with Toro, one of the world’s leading golf course equipment manufacturers underlines Goodwood’s constant quest to produce the very best for its visitors so that every detail has been scrutinised for this purpose.

For example, Toro’s latest blade technology has been incorporated on the mowers to ensure that every blade of grass is cut cleanly –not torn- to keep the sward green and healthy. Some 35 items of modern machinery will be in constant use to maintain the award winning Downs Course and Park Course in peak condition and additions to the latest mowers also includes mechanical bunker rakes, transporters for staff and devices to aerate the soil.

Stuart Gillett, General Manager of Golf At Goodwood says: “Our exciting partnership with Toro, a world leader in golf course care and maintenance, emphasises our commitment to deliver a world class golfing experience to all who visit us at Goodwood”.

Following the partnership announcement, Goodwood hosted a Turf Pro Tour event an opportunity for over 30 of theUK’s leading greenkeepers to meet and network over the latest Toro technology. The event was also attended by legendary greenkeeper Walter Woods who spent 21 years tending the St Andrew Links courses and was instrumental in creating the British and International Golf Greenkeeper’s Association in 1987 which now has more than 7,000 members.

Jeff Anguige, UK Sales Manager for Lely UK Ltd, Toro’sUKdistributor is delighted with the new partnership and commented: “We are thrilled to welcome a venue of Goodwood’s calibre to the Toro fold. I’m confident that the arrival of a state-of-the-art Toro fleet of mowers and turf maintenance machinery to the venue’s golf courses will bring a dramatic improvement in the performance and appearance of the playing surfaces, and benefit the greenkeeping team enormously”.

This year, Goodwood has also been recognised by Golf World as one of the Top 100 Golf Courses inEngland putting theSussex venue in the top 5% of golf courses in the country. Goodwood has also received an award this year for “the tastiest golf club food” by the 59Club, the independent golf analysis business that measures service at most the leading golf venues in the country.
