27-year old Northampton accountant Tom Linnett is a golfing trophy-winner with a difference.
While other golfers battled November rain storms, Linnett stayed warm and dry to become the first winner of the iPlayGolfUK Cup, a new tournament which pits golfers against each other – indoors.
Staged at new public attraction iPlayGolfUK, thought to be the UK’s largest indoor golf complex, the event was inaugurated to celebrate the Newport Pagnell venue’s first anniversary. Over 50 golfers competed for the first prize, a custom-fitted TaylorMade M1 driver worth almost £400, with 12-handicap Linnett claiming the trophy with a superb 6-under par score after 18 holes of simulated golf.
“It’s a great place and well worth the half-hour drive from where I live” said Linnett, who is a member at Northampton Golf Club in Harlestone. “This was my second visit, and my friends and I plan to visit regularly – especially when the weather’s not so good. As well as all the golf you can also watch sport on the big screens at iPlayGolfUK, and they have PS3 too.”
Linnett visited iPlayGolfUK on November 12th to claim his prize, and to get custom-fitted for his new driver. “I currently hit my Nike Covert driver pretty well” he said, “so it will be interesting to see how the TaylorMade M1 works out. I play Callaway irons but am looking to replace them in 2016”.
iPlayGolf’s Neil Wilcox commented: “We’ve created an indoor golfing playground which really comes into its own when the weather outside is doing its best to spoil your regular game of golf!
“As Tom and his fellow competitors will tell you, our six simulators recreate the feeling of real golf with all the comforts you associate with being at home. We congratulate him on becoming our first-ever iPlayGolf Cup winner! The event was so popular that we’ll be running regular tournaments here from now on”.
