Golf grows in Greece

7.30am 2nd May 2008 - Course Development

The cover of new issue of the quarterly free press magazine Golf & Tourism in Greece features Konstantinos Valasakis, the new president of the historic Glyfada Golf Club.

“The topics we’ve selected from the Greek and international current events include extensive coverage of the tournaments played by the Athena Ladies Club, a profile of veteran footballer Takis Gonias, who in the last three years has become a passionate golfer, and the secrets of the sport as presented by the famed professional player Nick Faldo,” says Ellie Abravanel, the editor.

“We also provide complete coverage of the Greek tournaments, a presentation of foreign courses, as well as timely articles on tourism and the environment.

“Golf, which is currently played on six courses in this country, is now attracting the lively interest of investors with plans to construct new courses in a number of regions around Greece, from the Ionian island of Zakynthos and the Halkidiki peninsula on the north eastern coast to Thesprotia, Crete and Messinia in the south west Peloponnese, Igoumenitsa in the north west, the island of Karpathos and elsewhere. Sixteen golf courses are scheduled for construction in the immediate future.”

Golf & Tourism in Greece has been published regularly since 1999 and it is the sole source of information on the sport in this country. It has a circulation of 20,000 and is distributed free of charge both domestically and abroad.
