Bom Sucesso, one of the latest additions to the European Tour Properties network, has engaged award winning golf course architects European Golf Design (EGD) to renovate the Guardian Bom Sucesso championship course. The course will undergo a redesign to the highest standards and incorporate the area’s striking scenery and undulating landscape.
Bom Sucesso is located in Óbidos, north of Lisbon, Portugal, and not only offers an18-hole Championship course, but also more than 600 houses nestled in the Óbidos Lagoon, with an interesting array of architetectual styles. The course redesign will focus on sustainability, environmental perspectives and will continue to establish the resort as a world class golf venue to be enjoyed by all levels of golfers.
The venue was recently named in the inaugural ‘Top 100 Golf Resorts in Continental Europe’ listing compiled by Golf World (UK) magazine, which was published this month.
Pedro Portugal, CEO of Bom Sucesso, said: “Bom Sucesso is delighted to go forward with the course redesign, it’s a great challenge and we believe EGD is the right partner.
“Since we became a European Tour Destination this has been on our agenda, and we are fully focused on exceeding our golfers’ expectations.
“This project will reinforce Guardian Bom Sucesso as a world class destination.”
European Golf Design is a joint venture between the European Tour and IMG and has significant experience designing golf courses capable of hosting major events.
Jeremy Slessor, Managing Director of EGD, commented: “We’re looking forward to working with Bom Sucesso to improve many aspects of this already hugely impressive golf resort.
“Our initial objective is to improve the landscaping around the course and in that way to increase the environmental value of the land. While at the same time reintroducing the beautiful natural characteristics, removing areas of grass that are far out of play, reducing the cost of maintenance and the consumption of water without compromising on the overall playability of the course.
“This process is already underway and the changes will be evident on the course in the very near future.”
