One of the most advanced golf academies in Britain has opened in the North-East at the Rockcliffe Hall Golf and Spa complex on the outskirts of Darlington.
The exciting new facility is predicted to become a centre of excellence for the most advanced players as well as beginners with expert tuition being tailored for individual needs.
The comprehensive set-up will be supervised by Tom Godwin, Head Professional at Rockcliffe Hall, who has extensive teaching experience and worked in the United States as well as the prestigious Gleneagles resort and the exclusive Queenwood Club in Surrey which lists Open champion Ernie Els, Darren Clarke and Paul McGinley among its regulars.
Tom says: “The Academy can be defined as a customer-focused golf facility enabling and encouraging individuals to develop their golfing potential in a friendly and professional and progressive environment.”
The new Academy will offer group tuition, individual lessons, keep personal progress records as well as arranging skills competitions. It will also participate in the Professional Golfers Association training scheme for young assistant professionals and provide a starter centre with the Golf Foundation to encourage junior players.
Its specialised facilities include a driving range, short game practice area, indoor teaching room, as well as a club custom-fitting and advice service. Tom explains: “Using the right equipment can make a significant difference to a golfer’s performance level”. The latest technology will be used in the teaching area including four video cameras to analyse the golf swing from critical angles. The important art of putting also receives crucial attention with the addition of a putting analyser and a training green.
Tom Godwin has already made considerable impact in the golf teaching profession with the innovative concept of “swing plane” which identifies the best and most natural technique for every golfer no matter the standard of play.
