The golfing landscape of London is about to welcome a new era with the upcoming launch of The Inspiration Club on June 1.
Described as ‘A Modern Links in the City’ this unique golf course is set to offer an unparalleled golfing experience in the heart of London.
While the course is due to open early this summer, the clubhouse building is due to come on stream towards the end of the year.
“We wanted to ensure that we had the right designer to create our vision and the result is a golf course unlike anything London has ever seen – a modern style links,“ said Tony Menai-Davis, director of the family-owned Bridgedown Golf Group, which also owns The Shire London and The West London Golf Centre. “To experience the shapes of the greens and run offs we have here you would normally have to travel to the coast. The Inspiration offers the drama of the absolute best courses in the UK in sight of the capital. We are incredibly proud of The Inspiration and cannot wait to open in June.”
Renowned links golf course design experts Mackenzie & Ebert joined the Menai-Davis team to work on the project in 2020 and their influence can be clearly seen. The par-72, 6,610-yard golf course boasts dramatically shaped USGA specification greens, averaging 550m2 that are seeded with Pure Distinction bent grass. Seeding of this quality is only used at a handful of venues and is designed to give the purest roll in golf. Elsewhere, an initial investment of over £700,000 has been made in the construction of rivetted EcoBunkers, further underlining the impact of Mackenzie & Ebert’s architectural design influence.
Tom Mackenzie said: “This has been an exciting, enjoyable and unique project and, if we have done our job well, then the same should apply to playing the course. We hope that following a first trip round the course, golfers of all standards will want to return with their friends.”
To ensure that the course is accessible to as many people as possible, The Inspiration has tee positions based on ability, with the forward Purple tees reducing the course to 5,440 yards and the middle Orange tees to 6,100 yards. There will also be an Orange/Black combination that plays at 6,325 yards.
The course features par fives to start and finish both nines, with three par 3s on the front nine and just one on the back.
Situated close to the A40, just 10 miles from central London and 5 miles from Junction 16 of the M25, The Inspiration Club is perfectly positioned to attract members and visitors from all over the south east.
