Las Colinas Golf and Country Club, one of Spain’s premier golf destinations, will once again welcome golf’s rising superstars after it was confirmed that European Tour Qualifying School Stage 2 will return to the venue this November. The development has rapidly evolved into a truly world-class destination since opening in the summer of 2010, and this announcement is yet another accolade that underlines its all-round quality and on-going ambition to become one of Europe’s most complete and desirable tournament destinations.
Located along the Mediterranean coast just south of Alicante, in the region of Valencia and named amongst Continental Europe’s Top 100 Courses in October 2011, Las Colinas Golf & Country Club received unanimous praise from both competitors and tournament organisers at last year’s Qualifying School event. Particular plaudits were given to the pristine course condition of the Cabell B. Robinson designed layout that is managed by industry-leaders, Troon Golf.
“It is clear that Las Colinas Golf & Country Club is an outstanding development with a golf course of the highest standard, naturally we’re thrilled to be returning there later this year,” commented Mike Stewart, Tournament Director, European Tour. “The event was a resounding success last year and the players were rich in praise for what is an immaculately presented golf course. We’re looking forward to seeing how the course has developed since last year and welcoming some very talented players, who I’m sure will relish the challenge that it will undoubtedly present. The climate is also perfect for the time of year and the facilities throughout are some of the best we experience on Tour.”
The qualifying school has a rich history of identifying future European Tour stars, with three-time 2012 European Tour winner Branden Grace advancing out of Q-School last year, alongside Dutchman Tim Sluiter, the eventual winner at Las Colinas Golf & Country Club last year.
“We are delighted to have once again been chosen by the European Tour to host what has become such an important event for so many aspiring young golfers,” noted Cristóbal Guerrero, Managing Director, Las Colinas Golf & Country Club. “Last year was a fantastic success –not only for the players and European Tour officials who worked alongside us during the week, but also the local residents who came out in force to watch and support the competitors. We look forward to hosting another great occasion later this year.”
