On the eve of The Open Championship, De Vere Heron’s Reach welcomed a plethora of sports stars, including De Vere Club ambassadors Freddie Flintoff, Harry Redknapp, Sophie Horn and Gavin Hastings for the inaugural De Vere Great British Hospitality Open. They were joined by a host of distinguished guests from the golf industry, as well as several celebrity guests, including Glasgow Rangers Manager Walter Smith, cricket legend David Lloyd and former Ryder Cup captain Colin Montgomerie. The tournament was won by Freddie Flintoff and his team with 86 points and raised over £35,000 for the British Heart Foundation, the Elizabeth Montgomerie Foundation and the Andrew Flintoff Foundation.
Located just 5 miles from Royal Lytham & St.Annes, De Vere Heron’s Reach received rich praise from competitors despite the unseasonal weather conditions, as they revelled in an itinerary packed full of entertainment. A post-round clinic by 8-time European Tour Order of Merit Champion, Colin Montgomerie, preceded an elegant gala dinner hosted in the venue’s expansive ballroom. Before a charity auction and sports quiz concluded the official proceedings, featuring prizes donated by John Deere, De Vere, Freddie Flintoff, Harry Redknapp and many others from the distinguished guests.
“It has been a great event, which has raised significant amounts of money for three fantastic charities,” commented Daniel Hodson, De Vere’s Director of Golf. “I’m particularly delighted that Freddie’s team emerged victorious, given all the hard work he has done over the past couple of years in aid of charity. We sincerely hope that this will turn into an annual affair, so a huge thank you goes out to everybody involved in the running of the event and all of our sponsors, especially the team at Herons Reach and Steve Dacre, our Group Golf Sales Manager.”
