7.50am 20th February 2007 - Course Development

Bushey Hall Golf Club in Hertfordshire is about to embark on a major long term investment. March 2007 will see the start of the work to upgrade the course which is the oldest parkland course in Hertfordshire.

The work is expected to be phased over two years and it will include the planting of additional trees, rebuilding bunkers and further improvements to the design and layout of the course. The timing of the improvements coincides with The Club’s centenary celebrations – the clubhouse will be 100 years old in July 2007.

Heading up the team carrying out the work at Bushey Hall is golf course designer and technical advisor Bob Hunt, managing director of PGA Design Consulting Limited (PGADC) which acts on behalf of The PGA of Great Britain and Ireland in matters of design and consultancy worldwide.

Bob Hunt is responsible for the team of golf designers and architects who have worked on over 300 golf projects worldwide and who have designed courses as far apart as the Caribbean and Norway. He is currently working on projects in: China, Trinidad & Tobago, Greece, India, Korea, and Norway in addition to Bushey Hall Golf Club in Hertfordshire.

Simon Scarborough The Veladail Group’s operations director said, ‘It’s a great accolade for Bushey Hall to be collaborating with Bob Hunt on this project as he is so highly respected within the international golfing world. We are very excited about the improvements this work will make to all the members at Bushey Hall’.

Bob Hunt and the PGADC have previously worked with the PGA providing project management advice on the building of the PGA National Course and the rebuilding of the Brabazon Course at The Belfry for the Ryder Cup in 2001. He is now responsible for the design of the PGA National Residential Golf Academy in England which is currently under construction at Formby in Lancashire.

Bushey Hall Golf Course is situated just a short drive from the M25 and M1 motorways, the 18 hole, 6055 yard, par 69 is easily accessed and is a peaceful oasis for golfers to enjoy the seclusion and challenge of a great day’s golf.
