£10 million investment at Old Thorns

1.00am 1st March 2001 - Course Development

Phase one of the £10 million investment programme at Old Thorns Hotel Golf & Country Club in Liphook, Hampshire is near completion. Eight superior category rooms are now available and the remaining 24 superior rooms and two new suites will open in April.

This investment is a part of Kosaido Golf & Resort Management’s pan-European strategy which is intended to create the finest golf resort portfolio in Europe. Included in the group are the Old Course Hotel at St Andrews and Les Bordes in France, whose 18 hole course is highly ranked by the Peugeot Golf Guide.

The architects at Old Thorns, Keppie Design, were also the creators of the fairway suites at the Old Course Hotel Golf Resort and Spa.

Work completed in 2000, as part of phase one, included a new irrigation system and rebuilt bunkers on the championship course as well as a new buggy fleet and a re-modelled pro shop.

Phase two of the programme, subject to planning approval, will add 80 new rooms, expand the leisure club and double the size of Nippon Kan, the award-winning Japanese restaurant.
