Troon last week recognised the unfaltering and outstanding performance of its International Division in 2013 at the 2014 Troon Leadership Conference, which recently took place in Scottsdale, Ariz., from January 14-16 at Talking Stick Resort. Amongst other high-profile awards amassed by international facilities, the awards ceremony was highlighted by the presentation of the esteemed “Facility of the Year” award to Royal Golf Club, Bahrain. The awards for the International Division include:
“Facility of The Year” – The Royal Golf Club, Bahrain
Royal Golf Club recorded top scores in all categories of the 2013 Owner Survey and turned around its Member Survey Net Promoter Score from a negative 49 percent to a positive 42 percent. The facility was able to reduce substantial costs and improve its GOP through the implementation of a number of Troon standards. The facility also recorded solid Guest Satisfaction Scores in 2013, introducing impactful programs including Troon Rewards, Troon Executive Card and Troon Values Your Time.
The Royal Club, Bahrain held off other prestigious venue finalists including Princeville Makai Golf Club in Hawaii, Troon North Golf Club in Arizona, Yocha Dehe Golf Club in California and St. James Plantation in North Carolina.
“Award of Excellence” – Calle Carlsson, Lumine Mediterránea Beach & Golf Community, Spain
This award is set aside for someone who did something extraordinary in the year, which fits Calle Carlsson perfectly. At LUMINE Mediterránea Beach & Golf Community, Calle’s team increased rounds by 13.5 percent and grew total green fees by 27 percent. Through Calle’s leadership, the club successfully hosted three large events, the International Golf Travel Market (IGTM), the PGAs of Europe Four Ball Championship and the European Tour Qualifying School Stage 2. Through a concentrated PR program, the club was also featured 87 times in golf publications throughout Europe, with a reach of 247 million.
“Troon Ambassador Award” – Mark Chapleski, Corporate Office, Middle East
Mark Chapleski has been incredibly successful in Dubai and continues to grow the Troon Brand in that market. Under his guidance, the region has grown to the most successful in the international division. All this after joining Troon in 1999 and taking an immediate assignment in Japan for four years before ending up in the Middle East. Mark is always “waiving the Troon flag” and works diligently to grow the brand.
In addition to the Leadership awards, the 2014 conference also saw a number of Troon “Rock Stars” awards which reveal the top performers in areas of leadership, member and guest satisfaction, and overall performance with the International Division featuring prominently yet again.

- Guest Satisfaction (NPS) – The Els Club, United Arab Emirates
- Troon Rewards Signups/Capture (International) – Saadiyat Beach Golf Club, United Arab Emirates

- Owner Satisfaction (All 5s and 10 Promoter) – Lofoten Golf Links, Norway;
Attended by over 400 delegates, this year’s conference was the biggest in Troon’s 25 year history.
