Troon Golf has been selected to manage the golf courses at Vilamoura and Amendoeira, located in the Algarve region of Portugal. Vilamoura is currently home to several of the world’s most famous golf courses, making it the largest multi-course facility in Troon Golf’s European portfolio and further establishing the company’s international presence.
In addition Troon Golf will manage on behalf of Oceanico two projects in nearby Amendoeira that are currently under construction. The courses at Amendoeira will feature Nick Faldo and Christy O’Connor Jnr. designs. In all, Troon Golf will manage an impressive number of nine facilities for Oceanico in Portuguese territory.
The highly celebrated courses at Vilamoura include The Old Course, known as the most prestigious golf course in the region; Victoria Golf Course, Vilamoura’s newest Arnold Palmer Signature designed golf course; Pinhal Golf Course; Laguna Golf Course; and Millennium Golf Course.
“We are excited to team up with the ownership group of Oceanico,” stated Bruce Glasco, Senior Vice President & Managing Director of Europe operations, Troon Golf. “We look to build on the wonderful tradition of the facility and further its position on the global stage.”
The Algarve has become one of Europe’s most desired tourist destinations and attracts not only visitors from around the world, but major world-class events as well. The European Tour is scheduled to host the inaugural Portugal Masters at the Victoria course in October 2007, following the successful 2005 World Cup also hosted at the Victoria Course. The event is one of three new tournaments on the 2007 European International Schedule and has received promising commitments from many of Europe’s best professional golfers.
Vilamoura’s reputation has also attracted the interest of PGA and European Tour professional Darren Clarke who has been named the touring professional for the facility. The Ryder Cup hero has agreed to carry the Vilamoura logo on his European and PGA Tour staff bag for the next three years.
The agreement to manage the prominent courses at Vilamoura and Amendoeira continues Troon Golf’s relationship with the Oceanico Group, now one of the leading property developers and golf operators in Portugal.
Headquartered in Scottsdale, Arizona, Troon Golf is the world’s largest golf management company, overseeing operations at more than 185 courses located in 30 states and 22 countries.
