Titleist, Golf’s symbol of excellence, gave its support to BBC Children in Need by hosting four lucky winners of the BBC Radio 2 Breakfast Show Super Swing Package for an exclusive Tour player experience at the Titleist National Fitting Centre. As part of the once-in-a-lifetime prize, the golfers went through a full fitting session for the advanced performance of Titleist golf balls and clubs, before being taken to Titleist and FootJoy’s European Headquarters for tour of the facility and to receive a fitting for FootJoy golf shoes and apparel.
The winners will go on to put their equipment to good use through the course of the golfing package, culminating with their participation in the BMW PGA Championships Pro-Am at Wentworth in May. Steve Fessey, Simon Hassell, David Barral and Geoff Mortimer came out as the highest bidders in a one-off Charity Auction that raised an impressive £374,008 for BBC Children in Need.
Jonathan Loosemore, Titleist’s Director of Leadership, explained the brand’s involvement in more detail: “It has been great to welcome the four winners to start this process, leading up to the The BMW PGA Championship Pro-Am. They were welcomed to our National Fitting Centre to be custom fit for a full-set of Titleist golf clubs, before returning to HQ to be fit for FootJoy golf shoes and apparel, which they will put into action at Wentworth in May. With their very generous bids, our prize winners have offered great support to BBC Children in Need and we are delighted to do our bit alongside The European Tour, alongside Chris Evans and Vassos Alexander of the BBC Radio 2 Breakfast Show.”
During the ultimate golfing week at the BMW PGA Championships, each winner will visit the Radio 2 studios, receive luxury accommodation, hospitality and transfers, play golf with two of Europe’s leading Ryder Cup stars and the Breakfast Show’s Evans and Alexander.
The excitement was clear to see amongst the winners, as they enjoyed the first taste of their incredible prize. This was highlighted by David Barral, who commented: “I’ve always wanted to be a professional golfer, so what greater opportunity to donate to an incredible cause and have the chance to be fitted by the amazing team at Titleist and FootJoy today ahead of playing with one of the best players in the world at the BMW PGA Championship. The fitting experience was out of this world and something I would recommend to any golfer looking to purchase new equipment. I can’t wait to put my new clubs into play at Wentworth.”
The package further underlines Titleist and FootJoy’s close relationship with The European Tour, and Jamie Birkmyre, Director of Championship Management, who was also present on the day, said: “Today gave our prize winners the amazing opportunity to come to this superb facility and be given a real Tour player experience by the experts from Titleist and FootJoy, who provided them with all the golf equipment they could possibly imagine from a veritable Aladdin’s cave. On behalf of everyone from The European Tour, I would like to thank all of those involved in supporting this amazing cause and everyone involved with the day for giving our guests the ultimate behind-the-scenes experience.”
