Just a few days before sealing victory at the 2012 BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth and regaining the World Number one spot, Luke Donald entertained three very lucky Direct Golf UK customers at Bearwood Lakes Golf Club.
The winners of the free-to-enter competition were selected at random from over 22,000 entrants – the highest number of competition entries in the leading multi-channel golf retailer’s 21 year history.
The winners were James Goldie, a 18 handicapper from Richmond, North Yorkshire; Brian Pearce, a 16 handicapper and member of Thorndon Park Golf Club in Essex and Neil Penham, a 16 handicapper, who shops at Direct Golf’s Reading store.
As well as teeing it up alongside Luke at Bearwood Lakes, the winners also got the opportunity to get up-close and personal with the world number one as he showcased the skills that made him one of the most famous golfers on the planet at an intimate golf clinic.
Winner Brian Pearce said: “I can’t thank Direct Golf enough for this once in a lifetime opportunity. It’s been an amazing day. ”
In addition, on the par 3 14th hole, players were also invited to try and hit their tee shot inside that of the world number one and James Goldie did just that – putting his ball to 10 feet and winning the nearest the pin prize in the process!
Speaking afterwards clutching his ball signed by the hottest golfer in the world right now, winner James Goldie, commented: “I’ve had a fantastic day and would like to thank Direct Golf for such a great opportunity to play at a fantastic golf course and also play with one of the leading golfers in the world, Luke Donald. The whole event will have a long lasting memory firmly embedded in the grey matter for years to come.”
The day concluded with a prize presentation and photo opportunities with Luke, before he headed off to Wentworth to prepare to successfully defend his BMW PGA Championship crown.
