Speedcut Contractors have completed a number of golf projects across the south of England.

At Foxhills Golf Club and Resort, Surrey, they completely reconstructed the 17th green of the Bernard Hunt course as well as further tee laser-grading and installing new paths.

They have also installed pipe drainage to the 8th and 9th greens on the Long Cross course, and secondary drainage on the driving range as part of an ongoing programme of improvements.

At Orpington Golf Centre, Kent, they have levelled and regraded three tees – with a fourth new tee built as part of ongoing improvements to the facilities at the centre, which encompasses two 18-hole courses: Cray Valley and Ruxley Park. Orpington GC is owned by MyTime Active Leisure, who use Speedcut as their regular contractor.

Speedcut have also installed drainage at Iford Golf Centre, Bournemouth, Dorset, part of Christchurch Golf Club which has two courses – the Bridge with 18 holes (par 72) and Stour, which has nine holes (par 27).

Barry Pace, Speedcut contracts manager, says: “”We have been taking full advantage of the excellent summer conditions this year to complete various sportsturf projects across the country and are delighted with the progress being made – especially when compared to the dreadful weather this time last year.”

Other Speedcut Golf Projects
Speedcut Contractors completed tee levelling at Upminster Golf Club, Essex, while at Hampstead Golf Club, North London, they relaid the third tee and installed Super Verde artificial turf for a winter tee area and new tees have been aser levelled at Newbury and Crookham Golf Club, Berkshire, and The Dyke Golf Club, West Sussex.

They have also built a new tee at the 15th at Langley Park, Bromley – designed by James Edwards Golf Design – and created new paths and reformed existing bunkers on the 14th.

Speedcut worked with Swan Golf Design at Gerrards Cross GC constructing a new practice green, while at Chislehurst Golf Club, Kent, they rebuilt the surrounds and approach to the 7th green, a Weller Golf Design project and in North London, Highgate Golf Club has had a green recontoured and returfed by Speedcut.

Another fast-paced job this year was to rebuild a bridge at Ham Manor Golf Club, West Sussex, within 24 hours – completing the job the morning before a ‘shotgun’ start of a major tournament in the afternoon.

Speedcut removed the old bridge – with foundations destroyed by river erosion during the winter – on the Thursday afternoon and on the Friday morning installed the bridge deck. The bridge was officially opened by the club captain just before the tournament began.

Speedcut Contractors are specialists in sportsturf construction, drainage and renovation. The company was established in 1977 and has a long record of major projects in every type of sporting venue, including golf, football, rugby, cricket and racecourses.
