Leading leisure provider Sheffield International Venues (SIV) is to invest £356,000 into Chesterfield’s Tapton Park Golf Course. The substantial investment pledge comes after SIV took over operations at the golf course back in April of this year.
The first phase of rejuvenation is led by an impressive £181,000 spend to update and replace ground maintenance equipment, along with an additional £37,000 to be spent on general maintenance of the golf course and club house facilities.
There are also plans to inject a further £125,000 into refurbishment of the buildings, plus an additional £13,000 has been allocated for quick fixes to areas of the site including the car park and surrounding area and tees.
Since SIV’s recent takeover, early sales figures are impressive and have shown an encouraging 25% increase in income from new memberships on previous years.
Andy Carnell, golf manager at Tapton Park said, “We are thrilled with the progress made so far. We have received plenty of positive feedback from our members about the changes already.
“With an underlying interest of improving both the course as a whole and overall customer experience, these are big plans for the future of Tapton Park and we look forward to seeing the final results.”
SIV’s mid-term plans include updating the internal rooms, bar area, as well as changing and toilet facilities and a new entrance into the clubhouse. Long-term plans include the possible addition of a driving range.
Tapton Park Golf Course is the only municipal parkland golf course in Chesterfield and has more than 500 members including around 120 children. Facilities include an 18 and nine hole pitch and putt, a club house, pro shop and changing rooms.
The newly acquired Tapton Park comes under SIV’s Golfit package which allows access to three Sheffield golf courses as well as entrance to four SIV Fitness Unlimited venues.
