Scotland’s First Minister praises Glenmuir Ryder Cup Association

8.06am 9th July 2012 - Corporate

Leading Scottish golfwear brand Glenmuir’s status as Preferred Supplier of shirts and knitwear to the European Ryder Cup Team will extend to 2014.

Encompassing this year’s Ryder Cup at Medinah, USA and Gleneagles, Scotland, 2014 the Lanark-based company will achieve an unbroken 27 years as Preferred Suppliers to the European Ryder Cup Team.

The prestigious partnership is one of the longest-running in the world of high-profile professional sport and was warmly welcomed by Scotland’s First Minister, the Rt Hon Alex Salmond MSP.

Said Mr Salmond: “I am delighted that Glenmuir has been appointed to supply clothing for the European Ryder Cup Team and that the team will be wearing products from a successful and renowned Scottish golf company when The Ryder Cup is played at Gleneagles in 2014.”

Glenmuir has enjoyed the position of Preferred Supplier of shirts and sweaters to the European Ryder Cup Team since 1987, when Tony Jacklin’s players became the first to lift the Ryder Cup on American soil.

Glenmuir managing director, Colin Mee, said he was delighted and proud that Glenmuir would be playing a part in the next two Ryder Cups.

“The Ryder Cup is one of the world’s great sporting occasions and to be supplying Europe’s top golfers for the next two events is a great honour and a responsibility that everyone in our business takes extremely seriously,” he said. “To be able to record 27 years as a Preferred Supplier to the European Ryder Cup Team is an exceptional achievement and as a Scottish company with golfing heritage stretching back to 1891, we will all have a particular sense of pride at Gleneagles in 2014 – the first time the competition has been played in Scotland since 1973.”

In its role, Glenmuir works closely with every European Ryder Cup Team Captain to design matching outfits for each day of the competition, including practice days.

Because of its position as one of Europe’s leading golf apparel brands, Glenmuir is able to offer a complete service to the Ryder Cup committee – from working on initial designs for the European Team and seeing them through to delivery to each player, in the required sizes – to manufacturing and distributing Official Ryder Cup logo merchandise, for which they have a license covering 2012, 2014 and exclusively 2018 Ryder Cups.

Confirming the appointment of Glenmuir, Richard Hills, Ryder Cup director, said: “Our players demand the very best from their golfwear, so it’s vitally important that we choose suppliers whose garments perform in the most challenging of circumstances. Glenmuir’s reputation for quality, performance and reliability is internationally-recognised and we had no hesitation in appointing them for the next four Ryder Cup events.”
