Portakabin at The Open

For the third consecutive year accommodation for administrators, contractors and spectators at this year’s Open Championship was provided by Portakabin Limited

Accommodation for contractors, administrators and the thousands of spectators who attended this year’s Open Championship at Royal Lytham and St. Annes Golf Club was provided by Portakabin Limited.

Portakabin’s expertise in providing temporary rest and office facilities for events such as The Open and Ryder Cup means that the organisation has become widely recognised as one of Britain’s leading suppliers in this field. For The Open Portakabin provided a total of 164 temporary buildings and 81 toilet units.

Michael Wells, championship assistant at the R&A said: “We have hired buildings from Portakabin for the last three years and we are always very impressed with the level of service we receive, as well as the quality of the buildings.

Several of the buildings have provided living accommodation for sub-contractors who were based on-site from the 1st June to the end of the Championship. They were all very pleased with the comfortable environment the buildings provided.”

Jonathan Reid, event hire manager at Portakabin Limited, said: “After in-depth discussions with The R&A, we identified the combination of buildings that would meet the needs of all people concerned. For example, comfortable living accommodation was required for sub-contractors, while administration staff needed efficient, smart working environments for the duration of the tournament. Portakabin buildings, particularly ‘Pacemaker’ and ‘Titan’ buildings, are very versatile and can be used for a variety of purposes, as this project demonstrates.”
