PlayMoreGolf has announced a new partnership with Prostate Cancer UK to help beat disease affecting every golf club in the UK.
The partnership will look to support and inform PlayMoreGolf’s member community, who’s core demographic includes those most frequently affected by the disease (men over the age of 50, black men over 45 and those with a family history of the illness), as well as help raise money to beat the disease.
The work of Prostate Cancer UK spreads across the sporting landscape, with their iconic ‘Man of Men’ pin badge sported by football managers and TV personalities. This relationship with PlayMoreGolf will look to further Prostate Cancer UK’s work with golf clubs across the UK, and make their iconic logo as well known in golf, building on the charity’s work with the PGA and their members, elite player Danny Willett, golf YouTubers, and club captains across the UK.
Prostate cancer kills one man every 45 minutes, the same time on average that it takes to play three holes of golf. The disease is the most common cancer among men, with the disease often not showing any early symptoms, and with currently no national screening programme.
Matt Holdstock, Sport Engagement Manager at Prostate Cancer UK, explains the importance of these types of partnerships. He said: “Prostate cancer exists in every golf club. Our aim is to make sure Prostate Cancer UK is in every golf club to get our message out there. This exciting partnership with PlayMoreGolf will ensure more golfers understand their own risk of prostate cancer, know how to take action on their health and provide a way for their members to raise money to beat the disease too.”
The partnership will allow and encourage members of PlayMoreGolf to get involved straight away and help to start raise awareness of disease effecting a significant proportion of the golfing community:
- PlayMoreGolf members will be able to access Prostate Cancer UK’s risk checker on their website – a 30-second tool allowing users to find out their own prostate cancer risk
- Members will be encouraged to share this link with fellow members, golfers, as well as friends
- Members will be encouraged to get involved with Prostate Cancer UK’s golfing programme including their Big Golf Race Challenge, and join the ‘Prostate Cancer UK golf society’ on Facebook too
Commenting on the announcement of the partnership, Jamie Carroll, Director of PlayMoreGolf, said: “We are delighted to forge this relationship with Prostate Cancer UK. This terrible disease affects so many men every year, many of whom fall within the demographics of our members, making this partnership even more important.
“Over the coming weeks and months as we get back to normality on and off the golf course, we’ll be talking more about our plans with Prostate Cancer UK, from ensuring our members are fully aware of the risks of the disease and introducing some of their fundraising activities. ‘The Big Golf Race’ will kick off our fundraising this summer, and we will show members how they can directly contribute at renewal time too. We are honoured to be partnered with this brilliant organisation and look forward to help spreading their incredibly important message.”
