Oceantee joins 1% for The Planet

Sustainable golf brand OCEANTEE has become a member of 1% for The Planet, a global network of businesses, individuals and non-profit organisations collaborating to tackle the planets most pressing environmental issues.

Sustainable golf brand OCEANTEE has become a member of 1% for The Planet, a global network of businesses, individuals and non-profit organisations collaborating to tackle the planets most pressing environmental issues.

As part of the scheme, OCEANTEE donates 1% of their sales back to the environment – whether they are profitable or not.

1% for The Planet enables consumers to identify businesses and services that are dedicated to creating sustainable products that have as little impact as possible on the environment. Consumers also know that 1% of their purchase price goes towards helping non-for-profit organisations delivering sustainable projects around the world.

“One per cent may not sound like much, but when we all commit to being just a little better it all adds up,” commented Ed Sandison, founder of OCEANTEE.  “Just imagine. Based on the latest R&A figures, if every golfer around the world – that’s 66 million – switched to a pack of our OCEANTEE bamboo tees, we’d be donating nearly £2 million to vital projects around the world, as well as reducing the amount of plastic in our seas!”

1% for The Planet started when Yvon Chouinard, founder of Patagonia, and Craig Mathews, founder of Blue Ribbon Flies, bonded over their shared love for the outdoors. Since their beginnings, they have certified more than $250 million in support to approved environmental non-profits.

Chouniard describes membership of the 1% for The Planet network as an essential running cost “This is not philanthropy. This should be a cost of doing business. It’s paying rent for our use of the planet,” he said.

In addition to its award-winning range of bamboo tees, OCEANTEE’s new product range also includes drinks bottles and sustainably sourced golfing apparel.
