The Oaks Sports Centre, Woodmansterne Road, Carshalton, Surrey, which burned down in a devastating fire in 2005, has been rebuilt on the original footprint and opens for business this weekend (Saturday 14th April).

For the first week of new business, the spectacular public spike bar, conservatory cafà© and golf reception desk in the new golf shop will be open to pay-and-play and golf club members alike.

And next weekend, from Saturday 21st April, the air-conditioned non-smoking complex will be fully open, revealing the new members‘ bar and 110-seater restaurant. The whole is served by a state-of-the-art kitchen and central bar and enjoys extensive patio areas overlooking the golf course.

Golf club members will enjoy luxurious accommodation with dedicated changing rooms and showers and will be able to recreate the histories of previous club champions, whose trophies, prize-winner boards and photo-montages of past captains were destroyed in the fire.

“It is a real thrill to see the rebuilt club house, with its beautiful furnishings, ready to welcome members,” said proprietor Mrs Donna Horley. “All the staff are looking forward to seeing the members and customers who have stood by us during the past two difficult years enjoying their new accommodation – and to welcoming back old friends and new members.”

Both the 18-hole and 9-hole courses have remained opened in the wake of the fire and, together with the refurbished and flood-lit driving range, offer both pay- and-play facilities for golfers of all standards and special benefits for those taking out golf membership.
