Launch of Crown Golf Academies

8.48am 11th October 2007 - Corporate

Crown Golf, the UK’s largest golf course owner, has appointed Robert Spurrier as its new Group Academy Manager to lead the development of an exciting new coaching programme across the group – which owns 32 venues and 57 courses in the UK.

Eight Crown Golf Academies will be launched later this autumn in the first phase of an initiative to create state-of-the-art golf coaching facilities at each of the company’s 32 UK clubs.

Robert, a Class AA PGA Professional, has over 14 years‘ experience of setting up and successfully running golf academies, and providing coaching services to golfers across Europe. He has held several senior coaching and Director of Golf positions.

He said, “I am passionate about providing quality coaching for golfers and introducing new people to the game – and Crown Golf is a great place to do this. The Crown Golf Academies project is extremely exciting and will see the group become the industry leader in providing first rate golf coaching to golfers of all abilities.

“We will be engaging the services of PGA golf professionals, providing quality facilities and equipment for use by the coaches and clients – and delivering a range of academy services and coaching packages that will be available to all.”

Robert will be responsible for the roll-out of the academies – implementing new coaching hardware and working with Crown Golf coaches on developing new offerings, a dedicated junior programme and an academy membership initiative.

John Weir, executive director of Crown Golf, said, “Robert is a highly experienced golf professional and he will be an asset to our senior team. As a company we are committed to developing grass roots golf and giving golfers access to the best coaches and the finest facilities at which to experience and enjoy their golf.

“The Crown Golf Academies project will create a fantastic new coaching network that will, in time, become the largest of its kind in the UK. Our aim is to deliver an outstanding golf experience for our members and visitors and having a world-class coaching programme is essential in achieving that goal.”

The first seven of eight Crown Golf Academies will be launched at: Blue Mountain (Berkshire), Addington Court (Surrey), Sunbury (Middlesex), Chelsfield Lakes (Kent), Chesfield Downs (Herts), The Hertfordshire (Herts), St Mellion (Cornwall).
