International launch for Druh Belts & Buckles

12.25am 5th February 2009 - Corporate

Druh Belts & Buckles, a unique range of stylish belts and buckles, have officially been launched internationally and promise to take the golf market by storm in 2009.

The brainchild of Touring Professional Simon Hurd of England, Druh (that’s Hurd backwards) Belts & Buckles have up until now been the golf professionals’ style secret with six Major winners, two current Ryder Cup players, 60 European Tour players and over 50 Asian Tour players all paying customers, wearing and loving Druh Belts & Buckles.

Hurdy, as he is known on Tour, has in the past been known for the distinctive and colourful pork pie hats he dons on the golf course. But not for much longer as his Druh Belts & Buckles offer the discerning golfer a selection of stylish handmade leather and snakeskin belts in sumptuous classic and chic casual styles.

Already his designs in classic black and browns and funky pastels and metallics are spreading like wildfire amongst the vaulted ranks of Touring Pros and three-time Ryder Cup winner and multiple champion on The European Tour, Paul McGinley, has been signed up as a Druh Belts & Buckles ambassador.

“Even as a golf pro, I have always taken an interest in fashion both on and off the golf course, so it seemed a natural sideline for me to go into,” says Hurdy, a smart dresser with well-tailored attire. “In fact I have been dressed by William Hunt of Savile Row, London, for the past three years and I soon realised that looking smart means playing smart.

“I have a particular passion for belts and travelling the world, I have always found it difficult to find stylish, good quality belts. So I started designing my own and commissioned a local leather craftsman in Thailand to hand make them. So many friends and fellow golfers liked them that I decided it wouldn’t be a bad idea to start a business out of it.

“Golf gear is often perceived as rather staid and dull so I wanted to have a bit of fun designing belts and buckles that were a little bit funky, yet stylish, and certainly they have been an instant hit with pro golfers all over the world. And now it is the chance for all those amateurs out there to smarten up their golf look with one of my Druh belts!”

The leather belt range is handmade in ten water snakeskins, ranging from turquoise to pink and 15 leathers in different embossed styles, from crocodile to ostrich effect. Druh’s interchangeable buckles in brushed nickel, polished silver or gold mean their belts can be customised to look smart on or off the course.

Available through the internet at www.druhbeltsandbuckles.com allows golfers to design their own unique belt by choosing their own belt and buckle combination.

When not selling his Druh Belts & Buckles, Hurd is now a regular on the Asian Tour after playing on The European Tour on and off for the last 10 years. He is still looking for his first win in the Far East. Last season he was ranked 49th in the Order of Merit after finishing second in 2006 at the Aamby Valley Asian Masters in India in his rookie season.

Druh Belts retail at US$150 for snakeskin and $100 for leather and guarantees that the snakes used in production are not a protected species.
